Deviousness |
Kaylyn (on the right) has a very captivating look when she's in the zone. I loved the general feel of this one, with the wind swirling their hair, and a bit of an interplay between them.
I've watched you silently for a long time. I don't fave as much as I should (your whole gallery is pretty much a fave), and I don't make a lot of comments either. I've watched as each photo is an improvement on the last, and love that you're persuing what you want to do.
That being said, I have a bit of a beef.
Yes, you do great portraits, both artistic and, for lack of better words, standard, BUT, they are always shot at eye level.
Looking back into your gallery, the majority of the shots are taken with a pretty much level camera. As I look through though, I see others taken from extemely low angles looking up, and others looking straight down ([link] & [link]). Among all the eye-level shots, those jump out at me.
What I'm trying to say is don't be afraid to play with angles!
I beg to differ though! If you'd ask any of the models I'm always lying on the ground, or crawling around, jumping on to things.
I know exactly where you're coming from, and I do totally agree I have to watch for that more, the issue is that with many models they don't work well with tougher angles. Shooting too low when close will distort perspective and generally that's to be avoided for portraits/fashion style work.
The one with Suraj, looking up, the feel worked well because I wanted him to have a very 'bigger than life' in the city sort of look, and the one with Maraya could be described as a 'happy accident', I suppose. The low DOF in that one also really helped.
You'll see more play with angles as I'm going to be doing a lot more location work in the near future with the awesome spring weather. Studio lends it self more to a very 'sterile' and "Move away, zoom in" style of shooting that corrects perspective, but doesn't give a 'compositionally' interesting quality.
Anyways, I just thought I'd mention I want to see more angles! lol
But in general, a lot of the shots I get just don't... feel... right at odd angles. I'm always changing what I like, the style, exploring, so I'm sure I'll mix it up and one day decide that anything shot "straight" looks odd.
lol
I suppose at this point all I can say is "Another job well done"!
